mania (from Greek μανία[1] and that from μαίνομαι - mainomai, "to rage, to be furious") is a severe medical condition characterized by extremely elevated mood, energy, unusual thought patterns and sometimes psychosis. There are several possible causes for mania including drug abuse and brain tumours, but it is most often associated with bipolar disorder, where episodes of mania alternate with episodes of major depression. These cycles may relate to diurnal rhythms and environmental stressors. Mania varies in intensity, from mild mania (known as hypomania) to full-blown mania with psychotic features (hallucinations and delusions).
Manic patients may need to be hospitalized to protect themselves and others. Mania and hypomania have also been associated with creativity and artistic talent.[2]

Camphor is widely used in Hindu religious ceremonies. Hindus worship by lighting a holy flame by burning camphor which forms the most important part of many religious ceremonies. Camphor is used in the Mahashivratri celebrations of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and (re)creation. As a natural pitch substance, it burns cool without leaving an ash residue, which symbolizes consciousness. Of late, most temples in southern India have stopped lighting camphor in the main Sanctum Sanctorium due to heavy deposits of carbon; however, open areas do use camphor.[source www.wikipedia.org]

Re: celebrities and artists with mental sicknesses
Wed, May 12, 2010 - 7:36 PMwhen i experience mania..i paint.....creative concepts flood the head...energy is unlimited for expression of them. it's a euphoric trance with 24 hour focus. it's fantastic....unfortunately the numbers of artist with this energy that fall thru the cracks and o undiscovered and fiscally capable of sharing their vision is likely too large to actually represent the significance of what u bring up here.
